ESA/NATO Oct. 2016: The ESA astronaut position is classified in the A2/A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organizations’ salary scale. NATO is part of these Organizations and lists the monthly A2 salary as 5,102.13 Euros (annual 61225,56 Euros) and the monthly A4 salary as 7,315.62 Euros (annual 87,787.44 Euros)

ESA Dec. 2012: An ESA astronaut position is classified in the A2/A4 grade band approx. €4700-€5300/month. Upon entering the ESA Astronaut Corps, new recruits will generally be paid at the A2 level. Following the successful completion of the basic astronaut training, the recruit will be paid in accordance with the grade A3: approx. €5800-€6650/month. The promotion to the grade A4 generally follows after the first spaceflight: approx. €6800-€7700/month.
